Richards Layton Awarded the 2011 Christopher W. White Distinguished Access to Justice Leadership Award

WILMINGTON, Delaware (October 25, 2011) – Richards, Layton & Finger has been awarded the 2011 Christopher W. White Distinguished Access to Justice Leadership Award by the Delaware State Bar Association. The award is given to a legal organization that has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of pro bono services to Delaware’s indigent population. Coinciding with the American Bar Association’s “National Pro Bono Celebration Week,” the award was presented on Tuesday, October 25 at a breakfast ceremony held at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware.

“The firm is honored to receive the Christopher W. White Distinguished Access to Justice Leadership Award,” said William J. Wade, president of Richards Layton. “We are proud of our attorneys’ ongoing commitment to giving back to the community.”

Richards Layton received the Leadership Award in recognition of the number of pro bono hours and pro bono cases it has undertaken, the firm’s flexibility and accessibility in accepting cases, its financial support of agencies providing legal services to Delaware’s indigent, its fostering of a culture that values pro bono services, and the percentage of firm attorneys who accept pro bono cases. The DSBA Awards Committee particularly noted the pro bono work of Richards Layton attorneys C. Malcolm Cochran IV, Kelly E. Farnan and Melanie L. George.

About the Christopher W. White 2010 Distinguished Access to Justice Awards
The Distinguished Access to Justice Awards honor Christopher W. White, who was the executive director of Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. White was a lifelong advocate for the underprivileged and led the efforts to provide legal services to Delawareans living at or below poverty level. White died in a hit and run accident in 2010.
